Faith at the Border: ELCA Women Walk With Us
This past week, we were deeply blessed to welcome a group of women from the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) who traveled to Eagle Pass to learn more about our ministry, walk alongside our mission, and share in the sacred work God has placed in our hands.
Over the course of three meaningful days, these women gave not just their time—but their hearts, their presence, and their willingness to listen, learn, and serve. They came to understand the unique challenges and hopes present in our border community and to stand in solidarity with those seeking new opportunities and safety for their families.
Learning, Listening, and Walking with Us
Throughout their visit, the group participated in various aspects of our ministry’s work:
They connected with individuals and families who have experienced great hardship and are in the midst of difficult journeys.
They spent time at Mission: Border Hope, witnessing how communities of faith offer welcome, rest, and care to those arriving in our region.
They walked along the river, taking in the sobering reality of razor wire, barriers, and buoys—symbols of separation that contrast with our mission of openness, dignity, and love.
Each moment was a time of reflection—a reminder that God calls us not just to see, but to walk alongside those navigating hardship and transition, offering presence, compassion, and hope.
Bearing Witness to Stories of Strength
By joining us in our work, these women bore witness to the real-life experiences of individuals and families whose stories are too often unheard. Their presence was a powerful sign of unity and shared mission—a testament to the belief that God's love reaches beyond borders and barriers.
United in the Work of God
We are deeply grateful for the ELCA women who walked with us. They remind us that the work of justice, compassion, and service belongs to all of us. When we gather together—across states, across languages, across cultures—we reflect God’s vision of a united and compassionate world.
Thank you to these faithful women for saying “yes” to God’s call, for joining hands with our ministry, and for carrying our stories and our mission back to their own communities.
We hope and pray that their visit will spark continued support, deeper understanding, and an even stronger network of faith-filled people working to bring healing, dignity, and justice to the border and beyond.
